For all my saying “I hate Pinterest” I do spend a remarkable amount of time on it and have found some quite fun ideas. One of them was cake stands made from candle holders (or glasses or terracotta pots or basically anything). I had two candle sticks that I found in a second hand store for R1 each, obviously to good to let go and I knew that some day I would find a use for them.
When I was getting ready for Little OL’s party I remembered them, as well as a post I had found from Sugarbelle via Pinterest. All I needed was some spray paint and a little bit of time. Finding the time on a day that was not windy proved to be teh hardest part… do you know how windy it is in PE in February???
I sanded them down a bit, washed them and then sprayed each one with a different colour. One thing I will say is that my spray painting skills are seriously lacking! I am however happy with the end result, if I turn them around and face the drips away from me. Instead of glueing the plate to the top I just used prestik.
I liked this idea better as I can now use different plates depending on the occasion, or what I plan on putting on them.
Add a plate and done! So easy.
For Little OL’s party I stacked them up and put the cookies on them. I am really happy with the way they turned out.
All in all I was very happy with the way everything turned out. I made almost everything, including the cake stand that the cookies are standing on… yip you read that correctly. I will share details shortly.
I am writing this post in advance – in preparation for the big day – Valentine’s Day…
Let me just say that as of last year I officially HATE Valentine’s Day. Why you might ask?? Well it is about hope. I lived in hope that Mr OL would do something for Valentine’s Day. I am not talking big, I am not talking “take out for dinner”, or even “flowers” I am talking little. I am talking about the little things that show that somebody appreciates the other, I had at least hoped that he would wish me “Happy Valentine’s Day” but each year I am disappointed.
Last year I thought I was over it, I thought I could cope with the “nothing” but that it would not stop me from showing him I cared and thought of him. Well, let’s just say that it did not go well – there might have been too much wine involved (me). He told me the next morning that from now on I am not allowed to celebrate Valentines Day at all! I am now banned so this year there will be NO Valentine’s Day wishes in our house, there will be no flowers, there will be no wine, there will be no sushi (I bought that last year to go with the wine)!
And there will be absolutely NO hoping that this year will be different. Yes Mr OL, after 5 years I finally get it. You don’t like Valentine’s Day!
I am having a bad year race wise. On Sunday it was the Herald Cycle Tour, 105km. I was not too worried about the distance, I was a bit worried that I was not totally over my flu and I was also a bit worried about it being a cycle race. I don’t do bunches very well.
Those should have been the least of my worries. I was having a great race, totally loving it! Until about the 60km mark. The wind picked up and we were head on into it and would be for the next 45 kms. Not only that but my thighs started to absolutely ache. I don’t know how to describe it except that my legs have never ever been that sore. It felt a bit like shin splints but in my thighs. I was however still overtaking people and thought I would be ok – until a bunch in front of me went down and I got off my bike. I could NOT get back on. I just wanted to cry my legs were that sore. This was at about the 70km mark. I managed another km and then decided to phone my mom. I just could not carry on.
My legs carried on aching for another hour or so and then – nothing….. I was not even stiff the next day. It was the weirdest thing. I have ridden twice since then and both times fine.
So- 2012 has started with a “DNS – Did Not Start” and a “DNF – Did Not Finish” not good. But I suppose it can only get better??
I cannot believe my daughter turns 2 this month. Time really has flown.
Over the past two years she has grown from a tiny little baby to a very independent little toddler. She does not like me to do anything for her. This includes dressing her, brushing her teeth and hair or feeding her all of which poses a bit of a problem as she has not quite mastered them herself yet. She has mastered the art of undressing though – which also poses a bit of a problem. Thankfully it is summer so most of the time I just let her run around with nothing on.
For her 2nd Birthday I have decided to do a Teddy Bear’s Picnic party. I love organising parties – which was probably just as well in my last job seeing as I was an events co-ordinator…
Anyway – in my quest for ideas I have come across some fantastic sites. I found a tutorial on making a plastic icing teddy bear – which I attempted last night and am so impressed with myself. The tutorial is fantastic – so easy to follow (and remember)
I also came across this site for this woman in Durban and her company Cupcake D’lights who decorates the most astounding cakes and cupcakes. She is a pure artist. Her enchanted garden cake is just absolutely unbelievable. Wow.
