This cat has decided to make himself at home in our front garden. He is very friendly, gets on well with children and other cats but he is not neutered. I don’t know if he is somebody in the neighbourhooods or if he has decided to adopt us. Personally I think he has the hots for Miss Molly – our little black cat.
I want somebody to claim him – so I can shout at them for not having him neutered. And if he is not anyones then I think a trip to the vets is called for. And a name….
The funny part is that when my sister was the age that Baby OL is now a ginger cat adopted our family then and stayed with us for 18 years until he passed away. They look VERY similar.
I found this on Jess Giggles and as I have hit a bit of writers block today I thought this might be fun.
1. What bill do you hate paying the most?
The water bill on a house that I rent out.
I feel it should be the tenant’s responsibility to pay it. Every month when I pay that bill it really grates! Especially as we have water restrictions and they have done nothing to lower their consumption. I am very water conscious at home and here I have to pay for people that don’t seem to care. I moved to a different rental agency about 3 years ago and they always include it in the rent so that there are no “fights” to try and get the water municipality’s payment. Makes sense but still grates!!!
2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner?
5. Why did you choose the shirt that you have on right now?
It has long sleeves and I was cold. I should have put a jacket on too though.
6. What are your thoughts on petrol prices?
Surely with the strong Rand they should be lower?
7. First thought when you woke up this morning?
I am going to kill that cat!
8. Last thought before going to sleep last night?
If those cats wake the baby again tomorrow morning I am going to kill them! (Anybody want two cats – house trained and make really good alarm clocks)
9. Do you miss being a child?
Not at all!!!
10. What errand/chore do you despise?
I would despise ironing if I did it, but I don’t. Why? Well because I told Mr OL before we got engaged that I NEVER EVER, EVER iron and if he wants anything ironed he either needs to do it himself or get a domestic worker. Guess what happened?
11. Get up early or sleep in?
Get up early
12. Have you found real love yet?
13. Favorite lunch meat?
I don’t like lunch meat.
14. What do you get most times you go into a grocery store?
15. Beach or lake?
I have to say beach because I LOVE the sea, but I am not a fan of sand.
16. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual?
Yes. I have a lot of friends that feel their husbands gave up trying as soon as they got married.
17. Sopranos or Desperate Housewives?
I have never watched Sopranos so I guess it is Desperate Housewives
18. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?
I have a schoolgirl crush on Zac Efron – although I don’t think dinner is what I would be thinking about. And yes, I do realise he is 15 years younger than me…..
25. At this point in your life would you rather start a new career or a new relationship?
Career – I am happily married.
26. How old are you?
15 years older than Zac Efron…
27. Do you have a go-to person?
Yes, 2. My sister and my mom.
28. Are you where you want to be in life?
No, but I am happy.
29. Growing up, what were your favourite cartoons?
I did not really have any. We did not watch TV much when we were growing up. But I had a Noddy doll that I loved.
30. What about you do you think has changed the most?
I used to be a drunken party animal – and now I am a sensible, sporty, if somewhat boring mom.
31. Looking back at high school were they the best years of your life?
Nope, I would rate them my worst.
32. Are there times you still feel like a kid?
Yes, I get pretty excited about stuff and start to jump up and down.
33. Do you have a pager?
Nope, never have.
34. Where was the hang out spot when you were a teenager?
At one of my friend’s parent’s houses.
35. Were you the type of kid you would want your children to hang out with?
36. Who do you think impacted your life the most?
I would say my parents.
37. Was there a teacher or authority figure that stood out for you?
The headmaster of our school, Mr Bernard Simpson and the art teacher Mrs Carol Vogel. I remember them both very fondly.
38. Do you tell stories that start with “when I was your age”?
39. What was the first new car you purchased?
Out the box new car – a Renault Clio – which was written off after 4 months (see above). Thankfully the insurance company replaced it. My very first car was a Ford Escort that I bought from my parents. I had that for about 9 years until it fell apart from the rust.
40. What is the scariest thing that has happened to you as an adult?
I became a parent
41. What advice would you give to someone about to get married?
Ok, do but don’t expect it always to be easy. Or that there won’t be days when you want to throttle the other person. Talk about it and move on.
42. What’s your favourite room in your home and why?
I don’t really have one favourite room. It depends on the time of the day. Sometimes the sun is in the lounge in the late afternoon and it is nice to sit there and warm up. Other times it might be the kitchen, or lately in my baby’s nursery while I give her, her last feed of the day before she goes to bed. She is quiet and just lies looking up at me, sometimes falling asleep in my arms. I love that.
43. What advice would you give someone starting their first job?
Don’t do what I did.
44. If you could go back and change one thing you did, what would it be?
I suppose I would have to say nothing, because everything I have done has led to this place.
45. If you could go back and change one thing someone else did, what would it be?
I would change my parents’ rule of “children should be seen and not heard”. They were VERY strict about it and I was never given the opportunity to speak to adults. For a very long time I battled speaking to people older than me, even if only by a few year. I really battled at work because I was so intimidated and lacked the confidence to voice my opinions.
So a while ago I started playing a game with my cat, Bacardi. Each night I will say to him, “Come Bacardi we are going to bed, even if he was fast asleep on the couch he will get up and follow me. When we get to the bed we play a bit of a game. I run my feet or hands under the duvet and he “catches” them. We play for a very short while and then go to sleep. Very sweet!
Very sweet – that was until last night!!! It was hot and I just threw the duvet of the bed – I forgot all about the “game”. As I was just putting my feet under the sheet he pounced, teeth and claws out. Holy $#@#%!!!! No DUVET! I could not move because every time I moved he would pounce again. Eventually I managed to turn away from him but then I must have moved. He pounced on my butt. I screamed and leapt out of the bed and then burst out laughing. It must have looked really funny and anyway, how could I be cross – I had “taught” him this game.
The only way I could get back into bed was to put the duvet back on. Now if I could just teach him that we only play that game in winter? Having scratched, bitten and swollen feet is not fun!
Here are some photos of the padded playmat I made. I am very impressed with my little self and love how it came out. Although I am sure that proper quilters or seamstresses would be hanging themselves with the cord of thier sewing machine if they took a closer look!
Miss Molly (my cat) has figured out how to get into our house roof if the garage door is open. Unfortunately she can’t get out again if the door is closed. This morning as Mr OL was leaving for work she jumped in. He could not get her out before he left for work so asked me to try. I could not get her to come down either. I tried to tempt her with biltong (her favourite), cat food and just calling but NO – so I left here there. I am sure that one day in our roof will not hurt her??? It was either that or be very late for work. At least I know when I get home I will not have mice or lizards or anything else in our roof (not that I think we do) as she is a very good little hunter.
I have my cats well trained. They come home at about 5 or 6, when I get home from work, usually they are there waiting for me but if not I just call them once and they come running inside. I then close the doors and the windows, give them some food and let them out again the following morning.
It works very well – except when it does not work!!!!
If one of them does not come home when I call I begin to panic. They are usually so prompt that I think something must be wrong. Last night I was about to put up Missing Posters all over the neighbourhood (again). Miss Molly still was not home by 8pm and I had called and called. Every 15 minutes from about 6 but that is beside the point.
Eventually at about 8:30 she wondered in looking all smug! Hmph – how to set me off into a panic.
We have two cats, Miss Molly and Bacardi and it is amazing the differences in their personalities, attitudes and how they approach things.
We have two dogs that are totally different from each other as well, but you expect dogs all to be different.Cats, well, aren’t they just cats???
Not ours.It was highlighted yesterday.I bought them a toy, it is kind of a feather boa on a stick that you wave around and they chase.
Bacardi saw the thing and started meowing constantly. The then followed it thumping along after it and making a huge racket, squawking with each footstep – no wonder he never catches anything. It was so funny! No attempt at subtlety.Pure brute force and lots of noise!
Miss Molly on the other hand, she saw the toy, promptly squatted down, tried to make herself invisible and then pounced.Much more tack.I can see now why she is the one that brings in the moles.
I must admit though, I don’t know who was having more fun with the toy – them or me?I was thinking at one stage that they might just be humoring me.As in “oh shame, look how much fun she is having her toy, let us just keep her entertained for a bit.”
And then just because I can’t go a day with out mentioning it!!! 23 Days till IMSA
Daisy has discovered a new trick. She had figured out how to “break” into our house. We came home from work yesterday and there she was INSIDE!When she figures out how to turn off the Burglar Alarm we will be in real trouble.
I know they say Border Collies are clever but this is ridiculous.
She had obviously seen the cats climbing in through the window and figured if they could do it so could she…
I am not a superstitious person.Really I am not!But sometimes you really do begin to wonder…..
On Friday, yes the 13th, Miss Molly my BLACK cat disappeared.I was a little worried, it was raining and there was thunder about.Normally at the first clap of thunder she comes running inside and hides under the bed – but there was no sign of her.She also usually comes when called and nothing. Not even at dinner time.We went to bed but left some windows open for her.We did not sleep very well and keep getting up to call her or see if she had come inside.Nothing. At one stage the dogs started to bark so hubby got up to go and investigate. Our house is in a U shape, so if you stand on one side you can see the roof on the other. On the roof was a HUGE owl!Yikes, black cat, Friday 13th and now a huge owl on our roof.I was beginning to get slightly nervous.Actually who am I kidding, I did not sleep all night! On Saturday there was still no sign of her.
I walked the neighbourhood flat, but refused to panic.Until about 4pm, then I called the Animal Welfare, the vets and put up posters in the local shopping centers and on lamp posts.I walked around some more (so much for the “off” day on my program) calling her name.NOTHING!!!Another sleepless night followed.
I decided to go cycling the next morning.I felt there was not much else I could do at home.Hubby said he would walk around some more and if anything changed he would call me.I must admit that the last thing I felt like doing was cycling.
But anyway, I went and kept my phone close! After about an hour on the bike I got a phone call.He had found her and she was fine!!!!Oh THANK YOU!She was apparently about 500m away from our house but trapped in the storm water drains. We think she had gotten lost in the tunnels and could not get out. When hubby went walking he kept calling her name and when he passed one of the gratings he heard her meouw.Luckily he was able to get the grating off the drain and get her out.She seemed none the worse for wear.
After all my muttering and cursing about people speaking on their cell phones while driving her I was on my bicycle!
Not even the rain could get me down on that cycle and we ending up doing 132km.
So Friday the 13th, black cats and owls on roof’s – all superstitious nonsense…….
This was taken a year or so ago and only a couple of days after we got Duke. Miss Molly should have stood up for herself then, because Duke is MUCH bigger now and she is always covered in dog gob! Poor cat, she does not seem to realise that she has claws. Our other cat, Bacardi has no such problem and has put the dogs firmly in their place. Infact so much so that they won’t even walk past him.
Well, anyone who wants to do this. It was fun going through my old photos.
